VBS - July 24
I just came in from VBS (Vacation Bible School). We have 100 plus children and over 50 adults serving. It has been great to see theses adults give up an entire week of evenings to help children hear the good news of Jesus. The kids are having a blast also. We have four huge blow ups out in the parking lot and each child has 25 minutes in one of their group times to play. They are eating this stuff up. We begin the night by bringing everyone into our main theater for an awesome time of high energy worship. The lights are going, smoke is blowing and the leaders are leading the kids in motions to the songs. To be honest, it's just awesome!
I can remember going to VBS and it was nothing like this. It was basically a craft time and a really boring adult reading us a story from a book. Can I be real honest, I hated it. So here at 5 Point we've tried to create an environment people can enjoy and relate to. That is part of my vision and strategy. I never want someone leaving thinking Jesus is boring because that is the furthest thing from the truth. I want people leaving feeling pumped up and excited about serving a risen Saviour. There is no excuse for a believer to leave church yawning and the most exciting part of the service is when its over. Heaven isn't going to be boring so why should worship here on earth.
With this in mind, we're going to do some things REALLY different! I am jacked up about this coming fall. I'll be starting a series called, "I screed up." How many of us have screwed up? EVERYONE! I've been in church all my life and been told I'm a sinner. I know that, but why not help me instead of just beating me down? So, this will be a series to help all of us recover after we admit our screw ups. We'll be discussing areas of life so many have screwed up in.
1. Sexually
2. As a parent
3. Relationships
4. Financially and possibly some others.
The staff and I have already began putting our heads together to create a service that is going to rock your world. This will get started on September 9th. Hope to see you there and bring a lot of unchurched friends.
Some thoughts for the day:
1. Great staff meeting today. Sunday is already planned out and is going to be good!
2. Children are hearing about Jesus! I love it!
3. Three people tonight agreed to take a key position of leadership for me this week.
4. I love our staff. They do such a great job in helping make our Sundays a success.
5. Worked out hard this morning.
6. Finally got my jeep on the road with a 4 sale sign.
7. Read four of my pastor friends blogs and it has got me jacked up. More on that later.
8. Going striper fishing this Friday with my son Andrew. Hope we catch a stinking monster.
9. Andrew goes back to school Monday after next. Gonna miss having him around.
10. My wife looked good tonight. 27 years of marriage and she is still my baby doll.
11. Watched my daughter, (who is our children's pastor) loving on kids and thanked God for her.
12. Feel so lucky to have my entire family serving the Lord at 5 Point.
13. It's 8:30 pm and I'm hungry as a horse. A perpetual problem in life.
14. Getting ready to meet with my elders Chuck and George. They've been such a blessing in my life and to this church.
15. Can't believe football is about to start! GO TIGERS!
