September 4 - Watch the road
Last Friday as I left the office I was in a hurry to pick up my son Jacob from school. Always look forward to hearing how his day went (and he is always glad to tell me, and then some). As I was going through the two red lights of Liberty, I was moving through traffic at a very slow pace. I saw someone I knew, looked in front of me and everything was moving smoothly. I turned to wave at my buddy for maybe two seconds. When I looked back at the road a car had suddenly stopped in front of me. I locked down on the brakes but it was to late. BAM! I was only going 8 or 9 miles an hour, but the damage was done. Come to find out the guy I hit lives in my neighborhood. He was really nice about the whole ordeal. Neither of us we're hurt and his bumper had a 3 - 4 inch crack in it. It's gonna cost me some money, don't know how much yet, but it could have been worse.
As I drove off after the police came, (so embarrassing) I thought to myself, "I looked away from the road maybe two seconds." "How could something happen so quickly?" And it was as if God spoke to me in an audible voice. "Dean, never take your eyes off me," WOW! Did I just hear that? Two seconds and I was in a small accident.
Scripture warns us about taking our eyes off the road:
Proverbs 4:25
Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.
Proverbs 23:26
My son, give me your heart and let your eyes keep to my ways,
I know so many people who have been in major accidents because they we're not watching where they go. My 19 year old, Andrew and I have had discussions about text messaging while driving. It only takes a couple seconds of looking down.
Spiritually speaking, major accidents happen when we look elsewhere also. So may times we get comfortable in life and begin looking elsewhere and BAM! It happens, then we wonder why. It ends up costing us much more than some money. Our relationship with Christ is damaged. So allow me to help all of us - KEEP YOUR EYES ON GOD AT ALL TIMES! No matter who or what waves and tries to get your attention.
