November 7, Sex talks
I speak the first Wednesday of each month to the guys about whatever God lays on my heart. Terry Whiteside and Larry Durham have spoken the past two months; thanks guys!
Since I've been working on a message about pornography addiction and since this is such a battle with men, just really felt led to open a discussion about sex. WOW is all I can say. These guys we're hungry for the truth about sex. We discussed the four different types of love found in scripture:
4 types of Love
1. Phileo - heartfelt love - the kind you feel towards a friend.
2. Storge- natural love - the kind you feel towards your parents
3. Agape - unconditional love - the kind of love God has for us.
4. Eros- sexual Love - passionate love, frisky love, romantic type of love.
Our word erotic comes from eros.
We spent our time discussing eros love (same lesson as last Sunday and some of this weeks). When your with 20 men who are in an addiction home, buckle up. You know what was really refreshing. These guys we're honest with me. Honest about how they struggle with lust and sex. But the really exciting part came towards the end of my time. They were thankful for me being willing to tackle such a touchy (no pun) subject. Many told me they had never heard this stuff. As I was leaving a sadness came over me. A lot of these guys admitted to being in church a lot of their life. If that is the case, why haven't they heard any of this before?
Because so many churches are scared to death to discuss such an awesome topic. Terry Wood answered the phone yesterday just to receive another hate call. The woman on the other line was admonent that a church shouldn't be discussing such a topic. I loved how Terry responded, asked if if her church ever talked about sex. She was speechless for a few seconds and finally answered that they had disccussed marriage. Terry continued, "but what about sex?" It was only a few seconds later she hung up.
The events of the past month have done nothing but reconfirm that we (the church) need to be talking about sex. The world is talking about sex, the media is talking, our teens and children are talking, so shouldn't we as a body of beleivers be talking? The answer is YES! Buckle up 5 Point we're talking this Sunday about pornography. Trust me, it's going to be awesome. Please pray with me that God moves here in an awesome way. That men and women will open up and reveal some deep and dark secrets.
For all of you who disagree with me, that a church has no business discussing sex. Please open your eyes, Satan and the world is perverting something God intended to be awesome. Our children are being brainwashed by the media. If we don't stand up and teach God's perspective who will? Before you respond with hateful comments and phone calls. PLEASE come and worship with us this Sunday and see what God is doing.
