January 16, 23 Minutes in Hell
One of my goals this years was to read two books a month. I just finished my first one. It is titled, 23 Minutes in Hell and was written by Bill Wiese. Grant (Our key board player) recommended it to me. He actually gave me the book back in the summer. To his credit, he continued to ask me if I had read it. Basically, to make him happy I began reading the book. Please understand my heart. People know I read a lot so I get a lot of books from people. I do try and read them, but it takes a while. I sure am glad Grant stayed on me. The book was awesome.
Let me share with you the central theme of the book. Bill Weise claims that Jesus Christ came into his loving room and took him to hell for 23 minutes. Now don't quit reading just yet. I was a little skeptical in the beginning myself. If I believe or you believe him doesn't matter. What does matter is the incredible eye opening experience I had and you can have from the scriptures. I didn't realize there are over 150 scriptures describing hell.
Bill's claim is that he was so embarrassed about this vision that he didn't tell anyone for months. He began studying the scriptures and found out that his experience lined up perfectly with God's Word. As I was reading through the book I studied some of his references. I called Dr. Paul Jordan and discussed some of these references and my conclusion is that Bill is on the nose. I learned a great deal from the book. The scripture references will help greatly with an upcoming message.
Another benefit I received from 23 Minutes in Hell was the over whelming burden I felt for those who could actually spend eternity there. You see, I do believe hell is a literal place and people who do not know Jesus will spend eternity there. If Bill spent 23 minutes there or not I don't know, but his descriptions are in line with the scriptures and I have no desire to spend 23 seconds there. In saying that, my passion for reaching the lost has intensified.
Lord Jesus, please use me, my family and the people of 5 Point to reach thousands of people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
