May 16, Lunch with the mayor
I heard a statement a conference several months ago that really struck a nerve. The speaker asked every pastor, "if your church closed it's doors today, would anyone care besides those that attend and the staff?" WOW! That statement got me to thinking about our church. Would anyone even notice?
As I continue begging God to burn a vision and how to accomplish it into my heart, He continues to do so. The heart beat of this church is to reach and teach. Bu so many times we (the church) think the only way to do this is by waiting on people to come to us. Scripture is very clear, we are to go!
As the leader of 5 Point I started the GO process by having a meeting with the mayor of Easley. His name is Larry Bagwell, great guy. He coached Easley High football team for many years. We talked football for a while then got down to business. I asked him what 5 Point could do to make an impact in this community? He was shocked. Said he's never had a church ask him how they could help but always asking for help. We met for over an hour and we're getting back together soon.
I said all that for this. The past three years have been awesome at 5 Point. A lot of lives have been changed, but its time to get into the community. The majority of events planned now will be organized around getting into and helping our community. You'll be hearing a lot more about this. If you have any suggestions, please help me out. I truly desire for people to think of us as that church who cares about people. My hope is to begin having one meeting per week with leaders within our community.
