May 21, FOOD
If there is something the majority of us do not go without, it is FOOD. It amazes me at the amount of food we as Americans consume. Last weeks message continues to resonate in my mind. Since I've started Weight Watchers and been recording every bite I put in my mouth, it got me to thinking about a few things concerning food:
1. We are blessed beyond my wildest imagination in the area of food. We have every type within a few minutes
of our homes and work places.
2. We often say there is nothing to eat when in reality the cupboards and fridge is FULL!
3. We've become numb to the fact that we're destroying our bodies (God's temple) with over eating.
4. Eating bad comes natural.
5. We don't even think twice about eating t the point of misery, not satisfied.
6. There is no reason for anyone to be hungry in our church or community.
With that thought, I'm asking everyone to begin bringing non-perishable foods on Sunday mornings. We need to have enough on hand to feed an army. Once our pantry can't hold anymore we'll begin to give to other ministries. This isn't a one Sunday shot. Let's begin thinking of others every Sunday as we leave. Purposely buy foods you can bring while shopping.
Dean, why this concern all of a sudden about food. Two reasons:
First, as a hungry man came add asked for food last week it opened my eyes to the reality that there are people who have much less than many of us. I would imagine he was an illegal immigrant and couldn't get food stamps, yet a child of God. People can't listen about Jesus when they're hungry.
Second, with the majority of us, if not all, having so much food we actually throw some away, why not help others. It won't cost but a few pennies to help others in need. And you'll be amazed what helping others will do for yourself.
Many of us could actually buy a $25.00 Ingles card. We provide them at the book store on Sunday mornings. Give the card to the church and we'll give it to others. What a great way to begin reaching into our community. Help me to help others all in the name of Jesus.
