June 2, Pizza Inn

On Mondays I usually discuss our Sunday service.  Today I want to go another direction.

Last Tuesday our children hosted a fund raiser at Pizza Inn in Easley.  They waited the tables and received 100% of the tips.  They would also receive 10% of all nights receipts.  Our children and adult leaders did an awesome job.  They raised over $600 in tips alone and the manager told us they had never had a group work so hard.
GREAT JOB kids and adult leaders.  In fact, the manager was so impressed he told us he would give us 15% because over $2,000 of business occurred that afternoon.

THANK YOU to every person who came and supported our children and tipped so very handsomely.

Now the bad part.  Michelle called Pizza Inn Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to find out how much the 15% would be with no returned calls.  Finally, she spoke to the manager on Friday.  He told her that since we had done so good with tips (more than any other group) they weren't going to give us the 15%.  In fact, he didn't realize Pizza Inn wasn't supposed to give the 10% anymore.  This is after showing our leaders Tuesday evening (night of the event) what our responsibilities were and what they would do (which was give 10%).  Michelle was speechless.

I told Michelle not to worry about it that I would go and speak to the manager myself.  I did that very thing this afternoon.  You would have been very proud of me.  I was extremely nice.  I was as Christ like as possible.  Made sure the young woman I was speaking to realized I wasn't upset with her in any fashion.  But, I was very upset in the manner in which we we're treated.  Explained you couldn't change the rules after our people had brought in over $2,000 and did all the work for the evening.

Explained that in  no way did I want to make our church or my Savior look bad, but that this was unacceptable.  Told her I would not bother Pizza Inn again, but if they did not follow through with their end of the agreement I would never come back personally.

Shared this story for several reasons:
1.  I am so tired of churches being pushed around because we're supposed to be nice.
We are to be Christ like but not taken advantage of.
2.  I'm a firm believer in not hurting our witness or opportunity to share Christ, but I also believe we must stand
up for what we believe.  If I found out someone had not paid their bill, I would have paid for it myself to make
sure we did not cheat them.  I expect the same from them.
3.  Does the $200 really matter that much?  No it doesn't!  It is the principle that matters!

As I left Pizza Inn this afternoon the manager in charge said the owner would call me.  Well, thus far no phone call.  I'll let you know how it turns out!
