December 3, Great leaders are .......
I have started a Tuesday morning accountability time and Bible study with 5 coaches from Liberty Middle & High School. We are making our way through the book of Exodus trying to become better leaders through the examples of Moses.
This past Tuesday morning I posed the question, "Why do you think God chose Moses to lead the Israelites out of bondage?"
Think with me about this question. Moses was a murderer, had left the country and didn't even want the job. When God appeared to him in the burning bush he begged God not to make him go. He was basically a shepherd out in the middle of nowhere and God decided to use him. Again, why?
My thoughts on that question:
1. God doesn't see us as we are but what we can be. He saw the leader Moses would be, not was.
2. He was the perfect candidate. He had the best education available and he knew Pharaoh oh so very well.
3. But most importantly, I believe the answer can be found in scripture.
Numbers 12:3
[3] (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.
Man has a problem with pride. The majority of men I've hung around have anyway. You ever spent any time in a locker room full of division one athletes? You talk about pride. Now imagine being the man with millions of people. God knew how humble Moses was and would be.
Point in all of this, for us to be great leaders we must be humble. Can I confess that God continues to work on me in this area of my life. I've been praying that God would give me the leadership skills of Moses. Right now God continues to whisper, "work on the humbleness of Moses."
