December 10, Being Discovered

I've mentioned on several occasions I've been attending a pastors coaching network once a month with a bunch of other pastors at New Spring.  I've also said how it has been rocking my world.  I'll never forget the first session because it has impacted me and my ministry.  Perry talked about being developed versus being discovered.  I want to share how this discussion so impacted me.

FIrst, let me share how I truly have a burden for the lost and hurting people of this generation.  So much hurt and pain.  But, I've also had a burden for our church to grow, and some of it for the wrong reasons.  Perry opened our training sessions discussing how so many pastors are more worried about being discovered than being developed by God.  As he continued I realized he was talking straight to me.  After several months of intense prayer and self evaluation I can honestly say I'm about being developed and not discovered.  I've come to a point in my walk with Jesus that I only desire to please Him and no one else.

SO, to be successful I now try to:
* live a life pleasing for Jesus
* love my wife and kids and give them my best and not my left overs
* pick up hitch hikers and share the love of Jesus with them
* preach to the smallest of crowds and quit worrying about the biggest crowds.
* quit worrying so much about what all my critics think and worry about what Christ thinks
* give to people who need help
* give more to God's house
* share Jesus whenever possible
* do FCA with 50 students or less and love every minute of it
* continue to do a Bible study with 5 or 6 coaches realizing that life change is taking place
* pour my life into the staff of 5 Point and thank them regularly for all they do
* read and pray seeking God's will
* do all I can to better myself so I can make a difference
* lose more weight and get into better shape so I'll be usable for years to come

I guess I've finally come to a place in my life that I don't need to compare myself or 5 Point to anyone or any other church.  God is doing incredible stuff here, especially when you consider who is the pastor.
