April 29, Building the wall part 2
Yesterday I shared the first four points we discussed at our staff retreat. Lets continue moving forward.
5. Do I completely understand his promises?
Nehemiah 1:8-9
"Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, [9] but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.'
The same God who promised Moses has promised us. If we will be faithful we can win this city? It is our job as the leaders to be faithful in all we do so we can receive the promises of God
Matthew 16:18
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Jesus has promised us that His church will not fail. I want to receive this promise and grow His Kingdom in a great way!
6. As a leader, do I understand my position?
Nehemiah1:11b
I was cupbearer to the king.
All of us have different positions. Nehemiah knew his and understood it. Every person at 5 Point has a position. It will take everyone to pull of this vision. Nehemiah understood this and used the power he had to his advantage.
7. Will I face my fears or will I run from them?
Nehemiah 2:1-2
In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before; [2] so the king asked me, "Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart." I was very much afraid,
Nehemiah could have been killed for going in front of the King looking sad and he knew this. But he faced his fears. So many times in life we run from our fears versus manning up and facing them. Any leader will have fears, but any good leader will face them and eventually conquer them. As the staff we must never run and hide. When there is a problem we must handle it. The same is true for everyone who has a God sized vision.
8. Am I prepared to share the vision.
Nehemiah 2:5-6
and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it."[6] Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, "How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?" It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.
When the King asked Nehemiah what he planned on doing he was prepared to share. So many times leaders expect others to follow them yet there is no plan in place. We must be ready. We must be willing to share with anyone who will listen what God has in store for this city because of what this church is going to do.
If your not sure about the vision of 5 Point, let me sunm it up for you.
We want to reach people with the love of Jesus and teach them how to love like Jesus. We're all about reaching and teaching.
We've come to find out that the clearer the vision, the fewer the options and the easier the decisions.
9. Am I thanking God for his favor?
Nehemiah 2:7-8
I also said to him, "If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah? [8] And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the king's forest, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?" And because the gracious hand of my God was upon me, the king granted my requests.
God has had his hand on us. We must always rejoice in what has happened. We've seen over 40 people give thier life to Jesus the past three weeks. Were going to be baptizing a bunch of people again in May. Were growing and seeing life change every week. Always enjoy the incredible things God is doing.
Some random thoughts:
