July 28, The Invitation

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of Clint Yarborough & Cherie Finley.  It was hovering around 95 degrees but it was truly one of the prettiest weddings I've been to.  Both are huge Tiger fans with Clint graduating from Clemson so they had the wedding in the middle of the campus.  Very cool!

Friday night was the rehearsal dinner and they went all out.  Pixie Bills baby!  The food was awesome.  But what I want to talk about today is what happened after the meal.  Chuck Finley (Cherie Dad) and Carlee (Cherie sister) said some really nice things about the couple.  Then Cherie and Clint both spoke.  Clint did a great job of sharing his heart and thanking people who had played a major role in his life.  He did find until he came to the name of Curtis Middleton.

Curtis is the head football coach at Liberty High School and he had given Clint a job coaching football.  But that wasn't the reason for Clint being so emotional.  He had to take a couple minutes to regain his composure.  After catching his breath he publicly thanked Curtis for inviting him to 5 Point Fellowship because that one invitation eventually changed his life.

I'll never forget the Sunday morning Clint gave his life to Jesus.  He always sits on the second or third row and on this day he looked me square in the eye, with tears rolling down his face and accepted Jesus.  He was baptized here last summer and now plays a very active role in our church.

Clint helps with the children on Sunday morning and the youth Sunday evenings.  He seldom misses a Sunday morning and is continually inviting others to 5 Point.  And all this started with one invitation.

What if all of us invited?  Think of the life change that could take place.  Does every invitation end so happily?  NO!  But that isn't left up to us, only the invitation.

Check out Clint and Cherie in the video immediately after the wedding.
