July 30, Day of a pastor

Through the years I've been asked, what does a pastor do all day.  Some people were truly curious and others had a very negative spirit with believing the old saying, "pastors only work on Sundays."  So I thought I would share what a typical day for this pastor consist of.

6:30 - 7:30 am     I read over Sunday's message trying to memorize it and read the Bible (book of James & some in Matthew)
7:30 - 9:30            Drove to YMCA in Pickens, rode a stationary bike & lifted.  Chest & bi-ceps today.  Showered & drove to church.
Church staff really appreciate the showering part.
9:40 - 11:00          Read over message again correcting any mistakes.  Read a chapter of "IT" by Craig Groshell.
11:00 - 11:50       Thinking about next weeks message.  Perry Noble called me and we talked for 30 minutes.
I am still amazed how God is using Perry.  We were friends before he became famous.  Love that guy!
11:50 - 1:00         Spoke at FCA basketball camp held at J.B. Owens complex.  Spoke to 400 kids.  Shared my testimony.
Check out the video below.  The staff had a good time with kids asking for my autograph.  See at end of video.
1:00 - 2:00            Ate lunch with Dwain, Deb & Jacob.
2:00 - 3:00           Write my short notes (these are the notes I take on the stage with me.  Only one word clues & scripture)
Tim & I went over the video for todays blog and listened to some songs for next week and the following week.
3:00 - 4:00            Corey and I walked through Sundays service.  I actually preach my message to an empty auditorium.
Felt the same as some Sundays, no one listening.
4:00 - 5:00             Check my e-mails and write on my blog.  Correct changes we made during walk through.
5:00 - until             I've only prayed for 20 minutes earlier this morning and was interrupted.  I need to spend some more time with
God and will do that soon as I finish writing on my blog.  I usually get up a lo earlier but was really tired this
                                          morning so slept in.

There you have it.  A typical day in the life of this Pastor.  By the way, I keep a journal describing what I do every day.  Why, because a deacon once asked me what I do and it infuriated me because he was insinuating that youth pastors didn't work.  He had no idea how many hours I put in.  That was back in the early 90s and I've done so since.  I also journal all my prayers.  It is great to go back years ago and see how god has answered prayer.

Pray with me about this Sunday.  One of the most intense messages I've ever taught.  Begging God for BIG LIFE CHANGE!
