Aug 13, Lessons from Samson
One of the more popular stories of the Bible is Samson & Delilah (Judges 13 - 16). How a man fell due to his weakness for women. There are some incredible lessons we can leadership lessons we can learn from this heart breaking story. Anytime a leader begins a downward spiral there will be warning signs.
Signs of a leader in trouble:
1. Fail to address character flaws
All of us have flaws, but the difference in a great leader is that they will address them. Samson knew he had a problem with women yet he continued to walk down that path. I don't know what your character flaw is, but if you have the desire to be everything God has called you to be, address it.
2. Use deception as a safeguard
You know, those little white lies. In just three chapters Samson tells several riddles and lies about his strength. The funny thing about white lies, God doesn't look at them as little lies. All lies are lies.
3. Act impulsively
Samson was a man of impulse. Every time something didn't go his way he was having a fit of rage or killing someone. We all know things aren't always going to go our way. How we respond to these events will say a great deal about our leadership.
4. Overcome by area of weakness
Character flaws left unattended will eventually lead to BIG trouble. Samson met his match with Delilah. His weakness finally led to his death. You can try and cover them up, but sin always has a way of destroying its victim.
5. Misuse God given talents
Samson had God given strength and yet he seldom used it for God. So many people do the same thing. If you have a God given talent, use it to glorify God and not yourself. If not, serious consequences usually follow.
These were some o the things we talked about during my time with the coaches on Tuesday morning.
Other thoughts:
* Heading to New Spring to One with Dwain soon as I finish this.
* Sunday is done and I am jacked up about it (seriously). Had a lot of trouble with this message, God has something is store for us all.
* Throwing a curve at everyone with the music. Going to be fun.
* Made plans to attend a conference this September at Sea Coat in Charleston. Always wanted to go there. Really looking forward to it.
* High School football is here. Attending the Easley jamboree tonight. Yeah baby!
* That mean college football is right around the corner. Hope the Tigers have a great season.
* Really praying about our future home. If the fall is like the past three, where are we going to put everyone? Our first option will be go to three services. But at some point we've got to find a building or buy land.
* Beautiful day. Taking the jeep to New Spring.
* God is really speaking to me about some issues in my own life.
* Lost 10 pounds thus far. 280 by September 13th. Write it down. Its a conviction thing.
* Gotta head to New Spring.
