Aug 24, Thoughts on Sunday
There are Sundays when everything just seems to flow correctly. Sunday happened to be one of those days.
* Want to begin by stating just how incredibly blessed I feel to be the pastor of this church.
* Went home yesterday blown away by what God is doing here.
* Hope everyone who worshiped at 5 Point yesterday realizes just how awesome a day we had.
* Worship was great. Band seemed to really nail it.
* People were hanging onto every word of the message. I could have kept speaking but it was time to allow people to respond.
* As the invitation was given (it was as old school as it gets-get out of seat and come to altar) people flooded the altar.
* I was broken about losing some of it myself and prayed for myself while leading others in prayer. When I stood I couldn't get down due to the people on the steps. I asked those who had come forward to stand and make their way to the back where counselors would meet them. Between the two services 12 people went back. Never get tired of seeing people accept Jesus.
* I don't know how many came forward but I'll say 100 between the two services.
* As we sung, God of this city to close I could sense people are starting to understand what its all about.
* After the first service I sat on the steps of the stage just trying to soak in what had just happened.
* Love that we have to have two services (can't wait until we go to three) but its hard to teach such a heart felt message and then do it again 40 minutes later.
* Michelle had a Kid Zone volunteer meeting after the service. As she was sharing vision I began looking at all the people who pore their heart into our children. I am so thankful for every one of you. I'm convinced you take part in every salvation that occurs.
* The Kid Zone rocks and lives are being changed there.
* Dwain said they had another good night with the teens.
* What a great day for 5 Point.
* Offering has been down the past few weeks. This isn't an economy problem but a heart problem. As people get saved I often wonder if their wallet got saved also. Great ministries have a great cost. Reaching people cost money. 5 Point, trust Jesus. Love Jesus to the point that you can trust him. We are outgrowing this building, what next? Some of that depends on you!
* I've had a holy hangover all day. Been hard to focus on next weeks message due to thinking about yesterday.
* I'm under the belief that every Sunday could be just like yesterday.
Some other thoughts:
* Had lunch with the principal of Easley High School today. Danny is a great guy. Shared with him were willing to help them in any way we can. Want to see Dwain hanging out with students from Easley High on a regular basis. Great opportunities waiting on us.
* The first 10 minutes of next weeks service will be unlike any we've had. Doing something really radical to open peoples eyes.
* School is about to start in Pickens County. Pray for our Christian teachers. They are in the battle grounds BIG TIME!
* Really prayed a lot today. Seeking God's guidance on several issues and asking for wisdom on others.
* American Jesus starts September 13th. Who will you invite? Who will you invite if they won't come. Are you willing to continue inviting until you find one or more who will come? People need to know the truth of Jesus, and it will be taught during this series.
* This evening I'm going to put the top down on my jeep and just drive around. Enjoy the coolness in the air.
* A reminder to everyone. If you have a problem about something at church, please call and make an appointment. Do not start griping at a staff member before services. This is very selfish of you. All of us are very focused on Sunday mornings. In a sense, its game time. We take reaching lost people very seriously. We want to hear your thoughts but not right before a service. Please respect others and quit thinking about only yourself. And, please, under no circumstance, complain in front of others. What kind of a witness is it when your freaking out over something with others watching. Just a friendly reminder.
