Oct 7, Forgiveness
I speak at Home With A Heart the first Wednesday of every month. I really enjoy speaking to these men. You see they are very real and honest because every one of them has been around the block. They're all alcohol or drug addicts. Some of them, both! They don't mind sharing where they've been and why they're where they are. Just love their openness and honesty. Wish we could get church people to be this honest about their sin.
Anyway, this morning I spoke on the topic of honesty. If you worship at 5 Point you have heard the message. Second one in American Jesus. For those who don't attend yet read my blog, let me give you the key verse of the message.
Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Jesus is very clear, in order for us to be forgiven, we must be willing to forgive.
I asked the men to be honest with me, themselves and God. Everyone of them admitted to having people in their life they just couldn't forgive. Here is the really awesome part, I asked those who wanted forgiveness to give it first. Had them stand up and picture this person in their mind and say out loud, "I forgive you." Grown men were weeping as they let go of bitterness and hatred. Years of pain was being released. It was simply amazing It was nothing but a God thing.
What about you? Is there someone in your life that you've buried (deep into your heart) that hatred and just can't let it go? Please understand, it is a cancer eating at you. And know, forgiveness can't come to you until you forgive.
Read the parable of the unmerciful servant found in Matthew 18:21-35.
Let me know how it goes.
