October 14, Business

I had planned on sharing a few thoughts form Catalyst, but can't.

I just received a phone call that a friend from a previous church will probably die today or tonight from cancer.  My heart is breaking for his family.  He has two daughters, both in their twenties and a precious wife.  I think Mike is only around 50 himself.

But I'm ashamed of myself.  I had wanted to go and have lunch with Mike over a year ago when I heard how bad he was doing.  Why, because he was a right hand man for me as I was Youth Pastor of this church.  We renovated a building and turned it into a teen center in which hundreds of teens attended every Wednesday.  He worked as hard if not harder than any volunteer.  He took time out of his very busy schedule in order to serve Christ and those teens yet I couldn't find time to go and have lunch with him?  What is wrong with this picture?  Mike took vacation time to go on spring and summer retreats, but I don't have time for lunch?

I am heading to the hospital in a few in hopes I can apologize and beg forgiveness.  I am going not out of duty (Mike doesn't attend 5 Point) but out of appreciation. I am going as much for me as him.

Here is the point to all of this.  Are we all so busy we can't even thank someone for all they've done in our lives?  Are we so busy we have to wait until someone is literally on their death bed before we take the time to thank them.

Lord Jesus, please help us all to see the real priorities in our lives!
