Oct 23, Random Thoughts

Bunch of thoughts:
* I just returned form speaking at North Greenville University.  I usually speak there once or twice a year.  Had a great time and God moved in some college students lives.  Spoke at Presbyterian Wednesday night.  Much smaller group but wow did God show up.
* Speaking tomorrow at a Maximized Living event in Anderson with Dr. Calhoun.
* And on Sunday I get to speak to the incredible people of 5 Point twice.
* Really struggling with some growth issues.  Praying way through some stuff.
* Its Friday afternoon (which means its raining in Pickens County) and I'm sitting in my office with no one else here.  So quiet.  Helps me realize just how much I appreciate all our staff does.
* Renatus (5 Point of Africa pastor) will be here next Sunday.  Can't wait for all of you to meet him.
* Monday, several of us are going to Charlotte for a free three hour seminar on transforming a building (Wal-Mart, Bi-Lo, warehouse etc) into a church.
* Tuesday I'm having a date day.  Taking my wife to Hendersonville just to get away.
* Wednesday I'm traveling to Atlanta to get Renatus from the airport.  Busy week!
* After the message this week I'm doing something a little different.  Just sharing from my heart about the direction God is leading this church.
* I hate trying to lose weight, but love the results.  Weighing in on Tuesday on the camera has been great for accountability.  I don't feel like going to work out today but I'm leaving within the next hour.
* Halloween is almost here.  Please bring a bunch of candy this week and make sure your signed up to help with our event.
* Eddie Cox (pastor of Marathon) came and did an evaluation for us two weeks ago.  I read this on his blog.  THANKS EDDIE.

Five Point Fellowship

I took Sunday off and visited Five Point Fellowship Church, and I got to spend the day with Dean Herman their Pastor. Five Point is currently running between 600 and 700 people in the old Easley Colony theater downtown. It was amazing seeing how they have transformed that theater into a church – the way they do their music, and their children’s rooms. They have taken what they had and used everything to the best of their ability to reach people. It was a great experience.

I got to spend time with their staff, and we did what we call “walk-throughs” which is where we go to each other’s churches and just walk around as any visitor would, so that we can let each other know what their new comers are experiencing when they come to church. We do this, because an “outsider” can see things and recognize issues, where a person that sees the same thing every day won’t notice it.

It was a fantastic experience. Dean does a great job, and is an incredible communicator, and he is ALWAYS wanting to get better – always wanting to improve in order to reach more people.

They do a great job, and it made my day to see them in action.
