Dec. 22, Katie's funeral

If you follow my blog much at all you know that I have a cousin missing on Mt. Hood.  I spoke to her Mom Saturday night for over 30 minutes.  It was a heart wrenching conversation. The memorial service is today.  In fact, as I write this the family is preparing for this tough day.  Please take a moment and pray for them.

During the conversation with Darla I found out exactly what happened.  The three climbers (picture of Luke not included) left base camp and headed up the mountain last Friday night at midnight.  You climb during the night because the ice is harder and this makes for easier climbing.  While on the mountain someone got injured severely.  We know this because Luke (his body was found) had blood all over his shirt and pants and it wasn't his.  He helped whoever got hurt settle in and began the repel down the mountain to get help.  He left all his gear with the other two climbers.  While repelling down the mountain he worked up a huge sweat.  As tough as it is to hear, he literally froze to death after sweating so much.  His body was found at 9000 feet.  The other two are probably still in a snow cave somewhere.

My heart goes out to Katie, Anthony and Luke's families.  My prayer has been that God the Father gives them strength and peace during this incredibly tough time.

Below Katie's picture is a link to a local television station.  The video is 30 minutes long but you can fast forward to Dave Nolan, he is Katie's Dad.  As you watch the video you can see how God has glorified himself through all of this.
