March 15, Thoughts on Sunday

Yesterday was a day that I will remember for some time.  Not because God showed up and 100 people got saved (I continue to pray for that day) but because of what happened after our two services.

Some thoughts on the day:
* Two good services at 5 Point once again.
* Had some technical difficulties that we had to work through, but all was well.
* Was blown away that 90% of the church stood and admitted that they are trying to impress man and not God.
* Think of what we could do if just 500 adults were willing to try and impress God rather than man?
* People seemed to really be getting the message because it hit so many of us in the face.  Preacher included.
* A lot of life change took place and I'm always excited about that.

Let me discuss what happened after our services:
* Was told a street preacher was at the corner preaching against our church.
* When I got there he was just preaching to cars as they passed by.
* What he was saying was correct.  The wages of sin are death but screaming at cars passing by does no good.  In fact it does nothing but hurt the body of Christ.
* As I approached him he instantly became very defensive.
* I tried to carry on a normal conversation and didn't get upset until Andrew (my 21 year old son) finally walked off and the preacher pointed his finger at Andrew and told him he would burn in hell.  I guess the Dad in me came out.  Still pretty calm.
* I asked him if he was God and could he decide who went to heaven or hell.
* Told me he wasn't God but a fruit inspector.
* So I asked him what fruit he saw coming off a young man he had never met.
* Responded by telling me my son never read the Bible.
(This gets good)
* Asked him how he knew he never read the Bible, his response, "I can tell by the clothes he wears."
* Being honest, I laughed out loud and that really upset him.
* He then proceeded to tell me that not only was Andrew going to hell but that every single person who attended our liberal and worldly church would burn in hell also.  Being honest, this pissed me off.  I allowed myself to get agitated and shouldn't have.
* Long story short, the reason we're all going to hell is because men don't wear ties and women don't wear dresses.
* As I left I was literally broken hearted for this man because he truly believes he is doing good by destroying people.

Here are a few other things he said:
* Not only is everyone going to hell but we're causing others to go to hell by the way we dress.
* The reason our music is so bad is because we have drums and guitars.  I pointed out that stringed instruments and drums were in the Bible and not an organ and he only screamed louder.
* Another reason our church is so wicked is because we have a security team (Which I am very thankful for).
* Our sign says, "A church for those who don't like church."  Another reason we're all going to hell.
* As the pastor of the church I'm going to hell because I use wrong version of the Bible.
* I am tired of repeating his trash.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?

* That we must love on all people, even those who are somewhat confused.
* Arguing with someone will never win them over.  I allowed myself to get caught up arguing with him and I shouldn't have.
* I just took it personal when he told me that my family and all my church would burn in hell.
* That we are making a difference and Satan doesn't like it.

IT GET S EVEN BETTER!
Last night during my life group (had 18 adults sitting in a circle in my front room) the doorbell rings.  Deb answered the door and two Mormon girls had shown up.  I invited them in and they shared for close to an hour.

I will share that experience tomorrow.  It is 6:00 PM and I'm ready to go home.  Been one of those days.
