March 16, Mormons visit

As I shared yesterday, during my life group Sunday night two young ladies knocked on the door and asked if they could share their Mormon faith with us.  I thought it would be great for our people to hear what she had to say.

I told her she had our attention and to fire away.  Here is the deal, Mormons will use the name of Jesus to make you believe they believe the same as us, but that isn't true.  I allowed her to speak until I couldn't take anymore.  Pointed out some major doctrinal differences with the one being that she talked about Joseph Smith a lot more than Jesus Christ.  I could point out a bunch of other differences but that isn't the point of this blog.

I asked our people of they would have been willing to step into a lions den and shared their faith?  Made everyone think, including myself.

So I began asking myself some very serious questions about how we're trying to reach people versus other religions.

Here are some of the questions running through my mind:
* Do we really care about lost people?
* If so, do we care more than other religions who are willing to spend 18 months of their life to share what they believe, and pay for it themselves.
* 90% of Christians do not and will not tithe, yet Mormons pay for their own mission trips.
* 99% of Christians have not read the entire Bible, regardless of how long they have been saved.
* Few memorize scripture at all and yet these young Mormons knew the Bible and Book of Mormons.
* Do we really care about others or are we good with our heaven ticket?
* Does these types of situations bother us enough to do something or just turn our heads once again?

What we must realize is:
* if we won't invite people to church, they will.
* if we won't share the gospel of Jesus Christ, they will share something else.
* if were not willing to give to reach people, they are.
* if we won't go on mission trips to reach people, they will.
* if we won't read the Bible and learn the truth, they will share lies.
* if we're not bold enough to step into a room full of people to share what we believe, they will and did.

My goodness church, when are we going to wake up and realize people are dying and going to hell as we work more hours to have more and nicer stuff.  Jesus wants and will use you if we'll stop long enough to realize people are dying everyday.

A quote a friend shared with me  “The cults are the unpaid bills of the church.” (Dr. J. K. Van Baalen, in the book, The Chaos of the Cults)  So sad but so true!
