April 27, Trusting God

5 Point Church continues to see incredible things happening.  Week after week we are seeing people give their life to Jesus.  Some major life change seems to take take every service.  And we continue to grow.  Easter Sunday we almost went over the 1,000 mark for the first time.  But here is the problem.  Our building won't allow us to grow anymore.  We will never reach this city for Jesus while in the Colony theater.

If you attend 5 Point you know we have seats available in the main auditorium every Sunday and you might be asking why we can't grow.  Its all the other areas that are full.  Our parking lot is 100% full every Sunday.  In between the first and second service the parking lot is almost dangerous.  Trying to get all those in the first out and the second coming in.  And if  you have kids, you know the problems we have in the Kid Zone with space, especially the sign in area.  And then there is the front doors and the foyer area.  It is elbow to elbow in there.  For people with an outgoing personality that is great.  But for any others it is awful.

As the leader and visionary of this church I have been praying about our next place.  The very location God wants us.  The building or piece of property God wants us to use to transform this city.  We can stay right where we are and continue doing what we're doing and we'll reach more people.  Or we can continue pressing forward and aggressively trying to reach each and every person in our community that doesn't know Jesus.  I have decided to take the second choice.

Last week the staff and I met Carl Crane at the old Chevy place on 93 in Easley.  As we walked through the building I could see 5 Point transforming that building into an incredible place of worship.  Carl and I have spoken a couple of times since then about what it would take for us to get in there.   Here is a picture of what could possibly be the worship area (minus the wall on the left).

The staff and I fasted yesterday seeking God's Will with this building.  My prayer has been very simple.  God open every door and put us into this building or close every door and point us in the right direction.

God may have answered that prayer this morning.  Carl and I talked again this morning and the news wasn't what I wanted to hear.  Another organization beat us to the punch.  They have a set of keys and are moving forward in negotiations with the Crane family.  After my conversation with Carl I'm convinced he wants us in the building as much  as I want to be there.  But here's the deal, God must not want us in there.

I hung up the phone discouraged for about 30 seconds.  Then realized God had answered every prayer.  He closed the door for right now.  I don't have to worry about it while in Africa.  If God wants us in there the other organization will turn inn their keys and walk away.  The same thing happened with the Colony.  Another church beat us to the punch, they had the keys and a week later said it was to big a project for them.

Said all that to say this, TRUST IN GOD!  HE knows exactly what He has in store for us and whatever it is I can't wait to see it.  Until then we will continue to utilize this building to reach as many people for Christ as possible.
