May 12, Honesty
Last Friday Jacob (my 11 year old) came home from school all excited wanting to share something with me. His story:
Walking into his class room he found a $20.00 bill on the ground. Immediately took it to his teacher and gave to him. His teacher thanked him profusely and couldn't believe a student would be willing to turn in. The principal called him up later in the day and gave him a $15.00 I tunes card while thanking him. The student who lost the money was VERY thankful for his honesty to say the least.
The superintendent of Pickens County came by later and personally thanked Jacob and told him there weren't many students who would be willing to be that honest.
Jacob not only got a $15.00 I Tunes gift certificate I gave him $20.00. I was so proud of my boy, but I should be since he is my son. The sad thing is that his teacher, principal and superintendent were so surprised and impressed. This should be common, but it isn't.
Let me ask you a simple question, if you were walking down the street and found a $20.00 bill, would you stick it in your pocket or turn it in? Couldn't help but think of what Jesus said about something like this:
Luke 16:11
So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
I feel certain that I'm not the only Father who was proud of his son. God the Father was smiling upon Jacob also.
A random thought:
* Great day yesterday at Mountain Lake Church. More later.
* Got to meet a personal hero, John Maxwell.
