May 13, Pastors Prayer

I was at Mountain Lake Church in Georgia Tuesday.  John Maxwell was the main speaker along with Joe Sangle and Shaun Love Joy, the pastor.  John Maxwell was incredible as always.  Joe Sangle brought the same passion and intensity he always does.  BUt Shaun said something I had never heard that really stuck with me.  HEre is the statement, "Most Pastors are the answer to their own prayers."

Now before you go off on the statement make sure you understand his point.  Here are a couple examples in my own life:
"Lord Jesus help me to lose weight. "  What is Jesus supposed to do, put a muzzle over my mouth.
" Father God give me boldness." All I have to do is man up.
"Lord please help me get out of debt."  I got myself there, not God's place to get me out.

THe point is this, a lot of times we ask God to do something in our life when in reality its up to us.  I know God wants me to lose weight.  I need to push the plate back, exercise more and quit praying about it.  Instead of asking for boldness, I need to do whatever God ask me to do and trust him.  Far as debt goes, quit spending money I don"t have.

The more I thought about Pastor Shaun's comment the more It slapped me in the face.

What areas in your life are you asking God to help you with when in reality you just need to make some changes in your own life,

Some random thoughts:
* Africa is almost here and I still need $700.
* Leave in two weeks this Monday.
* Will be involved in the first Liberty Touchdown Club golf tournament tomorrow.
* Have really wrestled with this Sunday's message.  If no one else needed this weeks message, I did.
* My favorite worship leader in America (not Tim Winkler) was caught in an affair this week.
* Then Blaine Bartel (he was one of my youth pastor heros years ago and planted a church in Texas) today.  What is going on?As men of God we have a responsibility to keep our pants zipped.
