May 25, Confusion
Sunday morning at 8:45 am a deer tried to run through our front doors, seriously. IT ran into both front glass doors leaving snot, blood and deer hair. It then spun and ran back across the road and into the cemetery. I felt s little sorry for it because it was obviously confused and hurting form the trying to enter a church..
But when you think about it, aren't most people who come to church hurting and confused They come to church looking for answers and end up ;eavinghurting and even more confused.
Yesterday we had a church consultant come and evaluate everything we do. I thought we would make the a grade of B+ to A-. After his evaluation I feel we were more around a C+. In fact, I beleive we might even be confusing some people. As church people we get comfortable with our surroundings and quit looking for those who are hurting and confused. We know the routine and realize when the glass doors are opened or closed.
The evaluation was excellent form ebecause it opened my eyes to some of the things were doing wrong that very well maybe confusing people. Thelast thing I ever want to do is make someone leave her emore confused and hurt than when they came. You will begin to see some of the small changes immediately.
Some random thoughts:
* Leaving this Sunday to spend the night in Charlotte and fly out early Monday morning.
* Will spend the night
* Just finished meeting with a woman struggling in her marriage and meeting with another couple in an hour. Sometimes I just want to do marriage series year round.
* Going to see Robin Hood with my son tonight. Dad/Son date night.
* Please pray for my right knee and ankle, very swollen from softball. Actually it hurts to walk and i don't need that right before leaving for a third world country.
* This Sunday is going to be incredible. Celebrating life change in a variety of ways.
