July 20, Things aren't always as fun as we think

If you've ever spent much time with me you know how much i love to fish.  It truly is my get away.  I haven't mastered the art of catching stripers yet.  And because of this there are times I go and never put a fish in th eboat.  Yet, I still have fun.

While at the beach last week Andrew and I went deep sea fishing.  The weather was great and the waves were non existent.  Little did I know the captain was taking us to an area that had a sand bar and was only 12 feet deep.  You put the two together (as I quickly found out) and even though your out in the middle of the ocean you have waves,  Lots of them and BIG ones.

Andrew had a great time, as the video below shows:

As for me, I didn't have as much fun.  In fact, for the first hour all I did was hug the side of the boat.  I think you understand what I mean.  After an hour of never touching a pole and studying the side of the boat I didn't ask but commanded the captain leave form that spot.  Once we got to smoother water I was able to stand up again but it wasn't until the next day that the world quit spinning.

What did I learn form this experience?  There are times inn our lives when we really think we want to do something.  In fact, we want to do it so badly we pay good money for it.  Then when we actually experience it, its not what we thought it would be.

Its the same way with life.  So many times we desire things that just aren't that good for us.  Its not that they are evil or sinful (such as fishing) but that we don't need to be involved in them.

the grass isn't always greener on the the other side.

Some encouraging news:
* Richard is in Dar Sa Lam today and will be in Tabora tomorrow.  If I know Richard, he will be building 5 Point Wednesday afternoon.
* I am speaking at a teen camp this week in Virginia.  Last night was incredible.  Worship was awesome and God was really moving.  Can't wait to see what God has in store for the rest of the week.
