Sept. 15, Preparing for the future
Through the past five years I have learned a great deal about pastoring a church. Seminary does not prepare you for the incredibly tough decisions you will have to make. How that your heart will be broken time after time. And Seminary does not teach you the leadership skills you must have in order to grow a church. I'm 110% convinced leadership is as important as being an adequate public speaker.
If you've ever been in any type of leadership position you know you must grow as a leader to grow any organization and the same is true with a church. Our church will not continue to grow unless the leaders continue growing. For that reason the staff is leaving tomorrow at 5:00 pm and headed to Lake Lure for a staff retreat. We will meet Thursday evening (topic is Radical Prayer) and the majority of Friday (topic is our upcoming capital campaign entitled "Satisfied?") and again on Saturday morning. We must prepare ourselves to be better leaders so we can help our leaders become better leaders. We'll be staying at a lake house for free. Everyone is bring stuff so the entire trip is free. Really looking forward to getting away with some of my favorite people.
Tomorrow I will be attending a one day leadership conference at New spring. Some of America's top leaders will be there speaking. Can't wait to see how god will use them to make me a better leader. Watch out 5 Point, I'm more jacked up than I've ever been!
Some random thoughts:
* Praying some of the biggest prayers I have ever prayed. More on that later.
* I have gone back into losing weight mode. Went from 320 to 280 and then put 14 back on. Back down to 290 and going for 270.
* Thank you for all the encouraging remarks about last Sunday.
* I can promise you this Sunday is going to be a lot of fun and VERY challenging!
* Loving this weather. Perfect jeep weather.
* So sick and tired of seeing South Carolina t- shirts. Where were all of you the past 100 years?
* Pray for me please. Really struggling with the sleep thing again. Past few nights have been 1:00 - 2:00 am and up at 5:30.
