I'm all about making goals and trying to reach them and that includes our church. Been praying about what God the Father would have us do this year. 5 goals I truly believe God wants us to achieve:
1. LIFE CHANGE - to see hundreds of people come to know Jesus, baptized and begin to serve Christ by serving others. To see half hearted Christians get on fire for Jesus. That 5 Point will be known as the church where God shows up every week.
2. Get out of the Colony and into our new building by Easter. My prayer is that on April 1st we have our first Sunday in the new building with our grand opening being on Easter Sunday.
3. To pass the 2,000 in attendance mark. We have been over 1,000 numerous times. Until we lost our parking lot we were running just a little less than 1,000. Now its time to bust through the 2,000 mark. And our goal is to do this with unchurched people. No sheep swapping here. We want those far from God to come to 5 Point and find the King. Once we get to 2,000 continue striving to reach more and more people.
4. Volunteers - I want to see us triple the number of volunteers we have. When people are totally bought into Jesus Christ vision and 5Point's vision, they want to serve. For us to reach this city we've got to get more people involved. And again, I want this to come through people coming to know Jesus and burning with passion to reach the lost.
5. Staff - this falls completely on me. I want to take our staff to the next level of leadership. A certain type of leadership can lead a church to 1,000 but it you gotta suck it up and improve to go to the next level. I also want to hire more staff as we continue to grow and get out of this building. We have no where to put anyone else right now. Need two positions now, a home group pastor and someone to help Michelle in the Kid Zone. We have the people picked out but can't hire them until we get into our new building.
A personal goal of mine for our church - Timothy Project
The past three weeks I have announced that any man who wants to take part in a ten week (very intense) discipleship/training could fill out the application and get it back to me by this Sunday. I am praying through applications now and will begin middle of January. My goal is to train ten men to become radical Christ followers. To become the husband/Dad, employee, prayer warrior, evangelist, missionary, servant that Christ not only called us to be but set the example. This is not going to be a Bible Study but much much more. I am excited about the Timothy Project and can't wait to get it going. After the ten weeks I will take ten more applications and hopefully the first ten men will begin disciplining others also. This fits our vision of reach & teach perfectly.
Some other thoughts:
* Congratulations to all Gamecock fans on winning 11 games this season. Great year for all of you and next year is looking pretty good.
* I know remember why I don't like the cold.
* Saw snow in mountains this morning on drive to church. Absolutely beautiful!
* Will they ever finish our parking lot? Hard to grow a church when the town thinks we're closed. Seriously, we've had several people ask us when we were reopening.
* Starting "Shocking Statements of Jesus Christ" this Sunday. It is going to be radical!
